This bulletin explains what corruption is and how it affects the fulfilment of human rights. Corruption is a virus that infects and endangers the existence of individuals, communities and society as a whole. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) defines corruption as “the misuse of public power, office or authority for private benefit through bribery, extortion, influence, peddling, nepotism, fraud, speed money or embezzlement.”
